Frontlist | Dave Barry, John Connolly headline for Savannah Book Feston Oct 28, 2020 The Savannah Book Festival announced three authors participating in virtual events hosted by the festival during November. Dave Barry will appear on Wednesday, Nov. 11, following the paperback release of his latest novel, “Lessons from Lucy: The Simple Joys of an Old, Happy Dog.” In “Lessons from Lucy,” faced with the obstacles and challenges of life after middle age, Barry turns to his best dog, Lucy, to learn how to live his best life. From “Make New Friends” (an unfortunate fail when he can’t overcome his dislike for mankind) to “Don’t Stop Having Fun” (validating his longtime membership in a marching unit that performs in parades — and even Obama’s inauguration), Barry navigates his later years with good humor and grace. John Connolly and James Lee Burke will appear in conversation on Saturday, Nov. 21. Connolly, an international bestseller, is the winner of a number of literary prizes for his work, including the Edgar, Shamus and Anthony awards, and a CWA Dagger. He is the author of the Charlie Parker series of thrillers, the supernatural collection “Nocturnes,” the Samuel Johnson Trilogy for younger readers, and (with Jennifer Ridyard) the “Chronicles of the Invaders” series. Connolly lives in Dublin and his latest book is “The Dirty South,” coming out on Nov. 3. Burke, author of “The Robicheaux” series, has been a Breadloaf Fellow and Guggenheim Fellow, and has been awarded two Edgar Awards for best novel, as well as the Grand Master Award, by the Mystery Writers of America. “Two for Texas” was adapted by TNT for television, and “Heaven’s Prisoners” and “In the Electric Mist” were theatrical releases. “The Robicheaux” series has been translated into almost every language in the world. He finished his first novel, “Half of Paradise,” when he was 23. Upon publication, the novel was given a six-column review in The New York Times by Wirt Williams, author of “Ada Dallas,” comparing Burke’s novel to the work of Faulkner and Sartre. Burke’s “The Lost Get-Back Boogie” was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. His latest book, “A Private Cathedral,” is his 40th book, and 23rd in the Robicheaux series. SBF launched their series of virtual author events this month, with Brad Thor and Sandra Brown. Other authors to be scheduled include Michael Connelly, Jane Smiley, Jack Carr and Ruth Ware. Dates will be announced on the SBF website as they are confirmed. Registration for these events can be done through the SBF website: https://www.savannahbookfestival.org/events/. One to two new events per month will be added as they are confirmed. Books can be purchased from E. Shaver, Bookseller and Ex Libris through the links on the SBF website. The Savannah Book Festival Inc. (SBF) is an independent, non-profit corporation committed to encouraging literacy and the love of books.
